August 29 - Whoosh!

My friend Vanessa got hired as a performer on Saturday Night Live.
I first got to know her through a series of silly videos she made with my friend Lilly.
She cracked me up continuously in my improv class at The Annoyance.
At the time, I remember wondering why she was even taking my class.

Last year Vanessa, her boyfriend George, and I came up with an idea for a show:
A convicted serial killer faces execution by electric chair.
While he is strapped in the chair, America's most affordable comedians roast him.
Then we watch him die.

We pitched the idea to The Annoyance.
For eight weeks Death Roast ran to a lone, glowing review from the Chicago Reader (no one else touched it).
They called it "truly revolting" and "both efficiently satirical and mind-numbingly dumb, if that makes any sense. Have a drink and you might not hate yourself for laughing."

She's always made me laugh.
I'm glad she now writes and performs comedy for millions of people as a career.
Tomorrow I begin three weeks of running coffee, setting up tents, and handling garbage between the hours of 5pm-7am.

Verdict: Loss
